« BackMEP Clune appointed chief negotiator on legislation for European Commission 2016 budget

Ireland South MEP Deirdre Clune has been appointed chief negotiator in the European Parliament on legislation which is looking at the budget for the European Commission for 2016.
She will focus in particular on spending in the area of employment.

Welcoming her appointment MEP Clune says her focus will be firmly on job creation and the fight against youth unemployment.

The Ireland South MEP says the best social policy any country can have to is to give their young people jobs.

Almost one in five Irish young people are still out of work.

Ms Clune says youth unemployment is not a new problem for Europe.  In 1995 it was at 21%. Since then, it has never been lower than 15%.

The latest figures show that youth unemployment in the EU has reached 22.5% with some countries hitting 50% and beyond.
