« BackMan who died on Carrauntoohil believed to be visitor to the area

University Hospital KerryA man who died on Carrauntoohil yesterday afternoon is believed to have been a visitor to the area.

Valentia Coast Guard received the call at around 2 pm that a climber had suffered a fall on the mountain.

Shannon helicopter Rescue 115 airlifted members of Kerry Mountain Rescue team close to the scene of the fall which was on the North side of the mountain near a place called ‘Heavenly Gates’ which is described as quite steep and hard to access.

The man, who’s believed to have been in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was brought back down the mountain to Lisleibane at around 9’o’clock last night.

His remains were removed to University Hospital Kerry.
