« BackMan rescued after fall on Carrauntoohil

A man in his fifties has been airlifted from Carrauntoohil and taken to Cork University Hospital.

Kerry Mountain Rescue Team and Valentia Coast Guard were involved in the rescue operation after the man fell while descending the mountain this afternoon.

The mountain rescue volunteer group was notified around 3.15pm that the man had taken a fall near the Heavenly Gates.


A coast guard helicopter from Waterford airlifted the man who suffered head injuries.

Damien Courtney of Kerry Mountain Rescue says around 20 of the group’s volunteers were involved in the man’s rescue.
