A Killarney man in his mid-fifties continues to be in a serious condition following a fall on Carrauntoohill yesterday.
15 members of the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team, Valentia Coastguard and the Shannon Coastguard helicopter were involved in the rescue above Hag’s Glen.
Conditions were poor with heavy rain and strong winds throughout the day and the hillwalker was brought by stretcher to meet the helicopter, which transferred him to University Hospital Kerry.
This is the third serious incident on this descent route known as the “Zig-Zags” in as many months.
Kerry Mountain Rescue Team says the common decent routes from most peaks in the McGillycuddy Reeks are steep and rock and can present significant hazards even for the most experienced hillwalkers and climbers adding that weather conditions can deteriorate rapidly at any time.
