A BER is an indication of the energy performance of a house; it has a scale of A to G, and A-rated homes are the most energy efficient and will tend to have the lowest energy bills.
According to figures from the Central Statistics Office, 21,104 houses in Kerry have had a Building Energy Rating audit carried out since January 2009.

The majority of homes in Kerry, 37 per cent, have a C rating, while 26 per cent are rated D.

Just one per cent of BER rated homes in Kerry have an A rating, the highest and most energy efficient rating.

12 per cent of homes in Kerry are in the E category, 11 per cent are B rated, five per cent are F rated, while eight per cent have a G rating – the worst on the scale.

The average age of the 21,104 houses with a BER rating in Kerry is 28 years; the average age nationally is 31.
