A major windfarm project straddling the Kerry-Cork border has been given planning permission.
The Grousemount Wind Farm comprises 38 wind turbines and is being built by ESB Wind Development Limited.
The windfarm near Kilgarvan spans 22 different townlands in Kerry and is located 23 km from Moll’s Gap.
It’s an amalgamation of two previous planning applications that were granted by Kerry County Council.
The wind turbines will have a hub height of up to 80 metres and a rotor diameter of up to 112 metres.
The overall height to the tip will be up to 126 metres.
The development will also include 28 kilometres of access tracks and four meteorological masts.
An Bord Pleanala granted a 10-year permission for the wind farm which will have a 25-year operational life from completion of the entire farm.
The board said it took the County Development Plans in Kerry and Cork into account along with national targets for renewable energy when making its decision.
