Gardai are putting in place a major traffic management plan for the Listowel Races which begin today.
The plan will be in place for the seven day harvest festival until next Saturday.
Racegoers are being strongly advised to park in car parks at Greenville, Convent Street, the Listowel-Tralee road and Barrett’s Field off Bridge Road.
Parking is also permitted on the Ballybunion Road, Railway Road and John B. Keane Road. All car parks are free.
Parking is also available in the town car parks and restrictions will be in place in residential areas.
Illegally parked cars will be towed and fixed penalty notices will also be issued. Parking along either side of the Greenville Road will not be permitted.
Non-race traffic is being asked to divert away from the area around the race course where possible.
Superintendent Daniel Keane is asking patrons to comply with Gardai and stewards and is warning persons to be aware of pickpockets, to lock cars and not to leave valuables in the car.
