Two and a half thousand litres of oil have leaked onto open land in Tournafulla on the Limerick-Kerry-Cork border.
The spill came from a tank that is situated on the land in Tournafulla, which is around seven miles from Abbeyfeale. Limerick City and County Council is on site and at this stage doesn’t expect any risk to water supplies. A spokesman says there appears to be no threat to wildlife either. Environmental specialists are due to arrive at the site shortly to undertake a clean up operation. This will also include a detailed environmental impact assessment.
Tom Tarpey is an engineer with Limerick City and County Council and he’s at the scene of the spillage.
