« BackLonely Planet names Skellig Ring Drive in 2017 Top Ten World Regions

Prestigious guide Lonely Planet unveiled the accolade in its ‘Best in Travel’ – a collection of the world’s hottest trends, destinations and experiences for the coming year.

The Skellig Ring is a coastal drive extension of the Ring of Kerry, which Lonely Planet described as “a wild and emerald stretch of coastline”.

The Skellig Islands – Skellig Michael and Skellig Beag – came to global prominence after featuring in the latest Star Wars installment, The Force Awakens.

According to Ger Kennedy of The Moorings in Portmagee, efforts to promote the area have been ongoing since the 1980s.

He now believes the benefits of those early efforts are being reaped:
