Local authorities will be able to target householders who DO NOT pay bin charges.
As a result of legislation introduced earlier this month, refuse collectors will have to provide the names and addresses of those who DO pay bin charges when requested by local authorities.
Kerry County Councillor Donal Grady says a survey undertaken by the council found 14 to 17% of people do not use any refuse collection service.
He says in the Killarney Municipal Area, the only local authority to have kept bin collections, charges are very reasonable when compared to commercial refuse collectors’ fees.
Councillor Grady adds he is in favour of the new measure as there is a lot of illegal dumping taking place in the county.
