Dianne NolanListowel is seeking to develop cross-border links with Wales in an attempt to strengthen the shared legacy of Celtic Scholar, Professor Cecile O’Rahilly.

The monthly meeting of Listowel Municipal District heard a motion – tabled by Sinn Féin Councillor Dianne Nolan – that contact be made with Gwynedd Council and Bangor University to explore this mutual heritage.

An academic of wide renown – fluent in Irish, Welsh and French – Professor Cecile O’Rahilly was a native of Listowel and graduate of the University of North Wales.

Cllr Nolan said it was important the shared Celtic literary heritage of Cecile O’Rahilly be explored.

She said this was especially important in light of Brexit – where there could potentially be a risk of a ‘drying-up’ of cross-border funding.
