A Listowel man is due to appear in Newry Magistrates Court on terrorism charges this Wednesday.
The charges relate to the planning of a possible attack on Sinn Féin’s Martin McGuinness
32 year old John Sheehy of Clounmacon was arrested along with 12 others on November 10th, 2014 at a house in Ardcarn Park, Newry as part of a crackdown on dissident republican activity by the PSNI and the British security service, MI5.
Mr Sheehy is facing charges that on dates between the 1st day of August 2014 and the 11th day of November 2014, he was a member of a proscribed organisation, and that he conspired to possess explosives with intent to endanger life, conspired to possess firearms with intent to endanger life and the preparation of terrorist acts.
It was subsequently reported that a possible target of the dissident republican group was Northern Ireland Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness
The case is listed for hearing at Newry Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
