« BackListowel estate moving closer to having public lighting restored

the-writings-listowel-from-daftA Listowel estate – currently in darkness – is moving closer towards having public lighting restored.

Residents of The Writings estate are requesting Kerry County Council have the lighting in the estate turned on.

Public lighting in The Writings Estate in Listowel has been turned off for the past 12 months to facilitate works.

Motions put forward by Cllr Liam Purtill and Cllr Mike Kennelly at this week’s meeting of the Listowel Municipal District highlighted the plight of residents as darker evenings approach.

In response, council officials confirmed the works, being carried out by the contractor appointed by the Bondsman, are nearing completion.

The council is currently awaiting CCTV and water audits, relevant certification including public lighting, and other documentation from the contractor.

Once received, assessed and agreed, council officials said it would be in a position to commence the statutory taking in charge process.

The meeting heard it is the council’s intention to address the public lighting issue as soon as possible.

Once the required documentation has been received from the contractor, and the council is satisfied all is in order – they will request the council’s energy supplier to have the lights turned back on.
