« BackListowel-born priest presented with award after lifetime of writing

A Listowel-born priest has been bestowed with the annual Heritage Award by the Kerry Archaeological and Historical Society.

Fr Tony Gaughan, who is now retired as parish priest of Blackrock in Dublin, was presented with the award at a ceremony at The Rose Hotel in Tralee.

A co-founder of Writers’ Week in Listowel, he’s written more than 30 books in his career to date, including biographies and a local history of North Kerry.

Fr Gaughan told Radio Kerry that he only began writing at the age of 40 – but always had a love of history, since his days of studying  for the priesthood:
