A Kerry garda has won Gold and Silver for Ireland at the European Transplant & Dialysis Sports Championships in Finland.
Garda Alan Gleeson, who’s from Ballygologue in Listowel but stationed in Dublin, won Gold in the 100m race and Silver in the Long Jump event at the 9th championships that are taking place in Vantaa.
This is the second time the 34-year-old has competed in the European Championships and he’s part of the Irish Team which now has a six-medal tally.
Tralee’s Stephen Byrne will compete in the mixed doubles bowling event later this evening with Chikoyo White from Ballbriggan in Dublin.
Alan, who attends morning dialysis at Beaumont Hospital three times a week and is on the transplant list, will be hoping to add to his tally tomorrow when he competes in the 200m race and the relay race.
He told Radio Kerry News he’s hoping to bring home more medals on Sunday:
