A West Kerry father of four, who is awaiting a lung transplant, has called on people around the county to ‘have the chat’ about organ donation.
A social media campaign has been set up by family and friends of John P. O’Sullivan from Lispole, who suffers from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Following deterioration last year, John was placed on the active lung transplant list in early March.
He is on oxygen 24 hours a day and says it’s a waiting game:
35% of eligible organs are not donated as the families of the deceased do not consent to the organs being transplanted.
The #HaveTheChat campaign – spearheaded by John’s daughters, son and nieces – urges organ card holders to make their wishes, with regards organ donation, clear to their families.
