Concern has been expressed that thousands of pregnant women do not have access to routine 20 week scans.
The mid pregancy scan is used to check the babies development and highlight any abnormalities.
Figures released for 2015 show that of the 8,172 births at Cork University Hospital during that time in only 2,939 cases were scans carried out during the 20 to 24 week period.
A spokesperson for the South West Hospital Group said that University Hospital Kerry does provide a 20 week scan for high risk cases.
They said while the hospital does record the number of scans conducted within the hospital, they do not record the number of 20 week scans seperately.
