Limerick City and County Council is satisfied that an oil spill near the Limerick-Kerry border hasn’t got into the water supply.
Two and a half thousand litres of oil leaked onto open land in Tournafulla yesterday afternoon. The accident happened when a hydraulic oil tank attached to a mobile crane ruptured while the machine was being set up on site. Environmental specialists remain at the scene to remove oil-contaminated soil. Limerick City and County Council says the clean-up process will continue over the weekend.
The local authority says it will continue to monitor nearby watercourses to ensure there’s no contamination.
It’s satisfied the spill is being contained with no impact on public water supplies.
