« BackLessons learned from Mitchels Regeneration could be blueprint for national housing strategy

Lessons learned from the Mitchels Regeneration in Tralee should be taken on board when dealing with the current housing crisis.

Mitchels Site 2Town Manager Michael Scannell said community cooperation with the various agencies involved was key to the success of the project.

To date, around €30m has been spent on the regeneration project which started in 2008 but was first mooted four years earlier.

Plans are at an advanced stage for an additional 15 housing units, 11 of which will be facing Áras an Phobail with a further four at the junction of Mitchels Road.

Mr Scannell says because the project was four years in the planning, it allowed for increased community involvement and the Government policy should build communities rather than just houses.
