« BackKillorglin woman found guilty of making a false report of rape

A Killorglin woman has been found guilty of making a false report of rape at Tralee Circuit Criminal Court.

The jury of nine women and three men returned a unanimous verdict in the case of Jacinta O’Connor of 3 Steele Row, Killorglin.
The 26-year old had pleaded not guilty to knowingly making a false report to Gardaí that she had been raped.
Jacinta O’Connor had pleaded not guilty to knowingly making a false report at Killarney Garda Station that an offence had occurred on 22nd September 2014.
Ms O’Connor claimed she had been raped twice by a Pakistani-looking man wearing a green hoodie at the back of Killarney Courthouse.
She later retracted this statement when shown CCTV footage by gardaí of her leaving a nightclub with another man whom she had consensual sex with in an underground carpark.
This afternoon, the jury took under an hour to return their unanimous verdict of guilty at the end of a four day trial.
Ms O’Connor has been remanded on bail to January and probation and medical reports have been ordered by Judge Tom O’Donnell at the request of defence counsel, Liz Murphy.
