« BackKillarney student disqualified from driving for two years

A 23-year-old man has been disqualified from driving for two years and fined €500 for dangerous driving near Killarney.

Brendan Fleming of Mileen, Kilcummin, Killarney, was also fined €175 each for two hit-and-run offences with a third taken into consideration. The car being driven by Brendan Fleming was recorded travelling at speeds of up to 180km per hour, Killarney District Court heard. The student of metal fabrication is accused of dangerous driving at Ironmills, Killarney, at Ballaugh, Killarney and at Artigallivan, Headford on May 2nd last year, and at Derrycunnihy, Ladies View on September 26th, 2014. He faces further charges including assault and using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour at Main Street, Killarney on October 19th and being intoxicated at Beech Road car park on the same date. The hit-and-run offences occurred at Finnegan’s Cross, Kilcummin on May 5th, 2013. Solicitor Padraig O’Connell said the breakup of his parents’ relationship and his mother’s terminal illness had impacted on him and he wasn’t sure if his behaviour was a ‘cover up’ or ‘bravado’. Judge James O’Connor remanded him on continuing bail to the February 2nd sitting of the court.
