A Killarney man has been fined €2500 for the possession of 6000 cigarettes on which no tax had been paid.
The cigarettes and over 15 kilograms of fine cut tobacco were found by a Revenue Inspector at 11 Allmans Terrace, Killarney the home of John Kevin Roche on June 16th 2013.
Killarney District Court heard that the cigarettes were valued at €8700 and there was a €7131 loss of revenue to the state.
Solicitor Padraig O’Connell said his client had made a full admission and had cooperated fully with the investigation.
The maximum fine is €5000 but Judge James O’Connor fined Mr Roche €2500 euro and gave him 12 months to pay.
