Eleven teenagers were taken to Killarney Garda station during an operation to target underage drinking to co-incide with last week’s Junior Cert results.
Killarney gardaí have issued details of the targetted operation which took place last week and involved plain clothes gardaí.
Between 7pm on Wednesday and 3am the following morning, eleven youths were taken to Killarney Garda Station, the youngest of which was 15.
Sgt Dermot O’Connell said all had consumed alcohol. He said that the alcohol was confiscated and the parents of the youths were contacted by gardaí. The youths were then collected from the garda station and taken home.
Sgt O’Connell said the garda operation was a success, as no incidents of criminal damage or assaults occurred during the operation.
He said that similar operations will continue to detect and deter underage drinking in Killarney town.
The youths involved are to be processed through the Garda Juvenile Diversion Programme.
