« BackKillarney Councillor Calls On Coillte To Allow Front Rows Of Trees To Remain When Felling Plantations

Cllr Michael Gleeson

A Kerry County Councillor has called on Coillte to allow the front two rows of trees to remain standing when a plantation is felled.

Kerry Independent Alliance Councillor Michael Gleeson has also called on the body to allow for the two rows of trees to remain standing until a new plantation becomes well established.

The Killarney councillor said people primarily come to Kerry because of the scenery – saying “that beauty is their daily privilege” – but “our constant challenge”.

Cllr Gleeson added he does not oppose the planting of forests but passing a felled forest could cause people to be affronted by the appearance of wasteland which may remain for a number of years.
