Kerry General Hospital reviews its planned elective work on a daily basis in the context of pressures in its Emergency Department.
The hospital also says it tries to maintain its elective programme to avoid cancelling elective patients at short notice.
The hospital was responding to a query from Radio Kerry News following yesterday’s decision by Cork University Hospital to cancel non urgent elective surgeries due to pressure in its A&E.
The number of patients on trolleys in Kerry General has been high on numerous occasions this month with up to 14 patients on trolleys on more than one occasion.
There are 11 patients on trolleys in Kerry General Hospital today according to the INMO.
