However, the latest data from the Central Statistics Office shows that there has been a monthly increase in the number of people signing on for employment benefits in Kerry’s seven social welfare offices. In January 12,725 people in Kerry signed on the Live Register. That’s up almost 2.5 per cent compared to December when just under 12,500 people signed on. But when compared to January 2015 it’s a decrease of almost 8 per cent or 1,100 people. Last month saw monthly increases in the majority of offices apart from Caherciveen which was slightly down to 520 and Listowel dropped 54 to just under 2,300. Killarney has the biggest monthly rise (202) to 2,316, Kenmare jumps 72 to 577 and Tralee increases to 5,186. There are slight monthly rises in Dingle to 818 and in Killorglin to 1,009.
