John Brassil from Fianna FáilA Kerry TD says the lack of appropriate planning and funding is affecting the most vulnerable.

Fianna Fáil’s John Brassil says the recent HIQA report which highlighted shortcomings at Kerry Parents and Friends is a reflection of the supports for disability services.

He claims the HSE is falling well short of the mark, and the area of respite services is one that needs serious re-evaluation in Kerry.

He says the State is planning to ratify the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities by the end of 2016, which directs that every person with intellectual and physical disability has “equal enjoyment of human rights”.

Deputy Brassil says this is long overdue.
