A Kerry TD says deferring the introducing of pay-by-weight charges for bin collection needs to be strongly considered.

Fine Gael Deputy Brendan Griffin says his office has been contacted by a number of concerned constituents about how their bills will be affected by the new system.


Deputy Griffin says he has met with Minister Simon Coveney about the issue.


He says in most cases competition is positive for the consumer and there is a strong role for private companies in waste collection.


Deputy Griffin says we need to get a system which is pro-recycling and conservation and doesn’t penalise householders, but he says plans to introduce the new system in July need to be deferred:
