A Kerry TD has said that he hopes the extra €500 million allocated to the Department of Health in the recent budget is not consumed by the HSE.
Speaking after the budget, Danny Healy-Rae asked that more money be given to provide extra Home Help hours to assist elderly people who want to remain in their homes for as long as possible.
He also asked that money be allocated to open the closed ward in University Hospital Kerry to address the number of patients on trollies.
In addition, he requested the new mental health facility in St. Margaret’s Road, Deer Lodge Killarney be opened and staffed and that the closed wards in Kenmare and Dingle Community Hospitals also be opened.
The independent TD said he has reservations that the extra money allocated to health will be spent correctly and that there is a lack of accountability in the HSE.
