Kerry Fianna Fáil TD John Brassil says the Knowledge Transfer Group Scheme has the capacity to deliver credible improvements – but farmers may be deterred due to bureaucracy.
The scheme’s aimed at providing discussion groups for farmers with advisors who could help improve profitability, herd health, breeding and environmental sustainability.
20,000 farmers have so far enrolled on the scheme – 26% less than the target set by the Government.
€100 million had been allocated for 27,000 farmers to participate in the KTG over a three year period.
Deputy Brassil has called on the Agricultural Minister to ensure that bureaucracy doesn’t stop any farmer from accessing this scheme and losing out on funds.
