A Kerry TD says the current processing time for carers’ allowance needs to be reduced.
Michael Healy-Rae raised the issue with Minister for Social Protection, Leo Varadkar, over the length of time people are waiting for a decision on applications for Carers Allowance and Benefit.
The current processing time for carers’ allowance is 22 weeks, up from 14 weeks in May of this year.
Minister Varadkar says the delay is due to the complexity attached to each application.
Deputy Healy-Rae says now is the time to review the staffing issues and clear the backlog of applications in the Department.
