« BackKerry SPCA receives more than 400 calls relating to animal cruelty

Cat The main organisation for animal welfare in Kerry received more than 400 calls last year alleging animal cruelty.

Kerry SPCA says the calls related to 716 animals, the vast majority of which were dogs.

There may be prosecutions arising from a number of the resulting investigations.

The organisation says the Government needs to restore funding for spay and neutering programmes for dogs and cats.

In 2015, Kerry SPCA received nearly 200 unwanted kittens.

Kerrie Ryan is the animal welfare inspector with KSPCA.

He says incidents of deliberate cruelty to animals are rare.
