« BackKerry Senator welcomes invite to visit Irish teen being held in Egyptian jail

Egyptian authorities have invited the Oireachtas Foreign Affairs committee to visit Ibrahim Halawa.

The 19 year old Dublin student has been imprisoned since his arrest in August of 2013 during protests in Cairo against the toppling of former Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi.
Committee Chairman and Fine Gael TD Pat Breen received the invitation from the Egyptian Embassy in Dublin after a number of requests were made.
Kerry Fianna Fail Senator Mark Daly, who is on the committee, has welcomed the invitation but says it is unclear as to whether they will also be allowed to attend Ibrahim’s trial which is scheduled for this weekend:
