A Kerry senator is calling on the Taoiseach to intervene on behalf of an Irish citizen jailed in Cairo.
Fianna Fáil Senator Mark Daly is calling on Enda Kenny to intervene on behalf of Ibrahim Halawa who is facing charges in Egypt which could carry the death penalty.
The 19-year old Irish born citizen has been in jail awaiting trial in Egypt for two years.
Amnesty International have declared him a Prisoner of Conscience.
Senator Daly said the Irish Government should seek Ibrahim’s release by Presidential decree and that the issue should be to the forefront of the Government’s agenda.
