A Kerry senator is calling for training on the impact of sexual violence for those working in legal profession.
Senator Mark Daly is also calling for gender quotas in the profession.
He says 70% of the population is not happy with the sentences being handed down by judges.
Meanwhile John Galvin, chairman of the Kerry Law Society says currently 52% of solicitors are female and therefore an even gender spread in the judiciary will come about without a gender quota system.
He says there are now four women out of 10 judges sitting on the Supreme Court.
Regarding sentencing, Mr. Galvin believes Senator Daly is tarring all the judiciary with the same brush.
