« BackKerry public urged to report stranded Manx Shearwaters

Manx ShearwaterVolunteers around the county are asking people to keep an eye out for stranded Manx Shearwaters.

These sea-birds, who live on the Blasket Islands and Skelligs, take off from steep cliffs this month to migrate to South America.

However bright lights in towns and villages can distract the birds – leading them to crash land and unable to take off again.

Britta Wilkens of the West Kerry Branch of Bird-Watch Ireland says volunteers will collect stranded birds and help them take off again.
