Kerry parents have been slow to register their children for the free Under 6s GP scheme – with many assuming that the waiver of the doctor’s fee, kicks in automatically.
That’s according to Farranfore-based GP Dr Eamon Shanahan, who says many parents incorrectly believe that they now don’t have to pay for their child’s consultation.
In order to register a child for the scheme, the parent must first have the child’s PPS number before logging on to the HSE website.
The card is then sent out in the post within a number of days.
Dr Shanahan advises all Kerry parents of children under 6, to register for the scheme straight away, if they haven’t already done so.
