85pc of Irish people think that what brings them together is more important than what separates them.
That’s according to Kerry MEP Seán Kelly who said statistics indicate a majority of Irish people recognise the value of unity between EU citizens.
That figure is higher than the European average of 74 pc, according to the Eurobarometer poll conducted across 28 Member States.
The survey also highlighted areas where Europeans most want the EU to take more action – including counter-terrorism, migration and unemployment:
