The Government’s avoided another Dáil defeat by accepting an opposition motion calling for motor insurance costs to be tackled.

The motion calls for a taskforce to look at why insurance premiums have risen by hundreds of euro in the past two years.

During the debate, Independent TD Mattie McGrath compared insurance companies to terrorists, accusing them of “naked hijacking.”

Meanwhile, a Kerry man is organising a protest in Dublin over the rising cost of insurance premiums.

Kian Griffin from Killorglin has co-ordinated the event which will see motorists converge on Kildare Street on July 2nd.

The group, named Underground Ireland, says some young drivers are being asked to pay treble last year’s rates for motor insurance, despite having considerable no-claims bonuses.
