Kerry homeowners are being advised to take measures to secure their oil tanks this autumn.
Last year saw a spate of thefts of central heating oil from outside homes throughout the county, and Gardaí are hoping to avoid a similiar situation, as the winter approaches.
Garda Deirdre Quinn O’Doherty says there are a number of precautions people can take, to safeguard their oil.
These include fitting a lock to the tank, building a fence or a high wall around the tank, or growing thorny plants around it to dissuade intruders.
She also advises householders to contact Gardaí immediately, if they notice any suspicious activity in their neighbourhood.
