A Kerry hotelier has criticised the Tourism Minister Shane Ross for not being hands on enough.
Owner of the Randles Group of Hotels, Tom Randles was one of the speakers at the National Tourism Forum in Killarney at the weekend.
Tourism Minister Shane Ross and his Junior Minister Patrick Donovan were invited to the event, which was organised by the Kerry Branch of the Irish Hotels Federation, SKAL and Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce, but neither minister attended.
Currently the tourism portfolio is part of the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, but Tom Randles feels tourism should have its own Government department and minister; he’s not happy with Minster Ross’ performance to date.
Meanwhile, PRO of the Kerry Branch of the Irish Hotels Federation, Michael Rosney has raised concerns about the new Fáilte Ireland CEO not yet being appointed; the outgoing chief, Shaun Quinn’s term is set to end in December.
Tourism Minister Shane Ross has been accused of hypocrisy over using private recruitment company Amrop to recruit the new chief executive instead of the Public Appointments Service.
Michael Rosney says it’s a very concerning situation.
