« BackKerry homeowners urged to check for lead water pipes

water from tap in a glassIrish Water is urging homeowners in Kerry to check the pipes in their houses.

It comes as a draft plan is published by the utility on lead drinking water pipes.

Irish Water is asking people whose homes were built before 1980 to check the internal plumbing for lead pipes as the lead can pose a serious health risk.

It says it is confident lead piping has been removed from the public network but there are around 180,000 homes nationwide with these pipes.

Irish Water will be targeting the replacement of these pipes over the next five years.
