A number of holiday homes in Kerry have been pledged to the Irish Red Cross for the resettlement of Syrian refugees.
According to a report in today’s Sunday Independent, non-commercial organisations, church groups and private citizens have pledged offers of accommodation, services and goods.
The Department of Justice said this week that 240 refugees are to be resettled in Kerry and Cork by the end of 2016.
Meanwhile Kerry County Council confirmed that eleven Syrian families – including 19 children – will arrive in Tralee and Killarney before Christmas.
The families are currently staying in a refugee orientation centre in Monastererevin, Co. Kildare.
Kerry County Council are said to be working with Tralee International Resource Centre, Killarney Asylum Seeker Centre, the Gardai, the HSE and community groups in the resettlement process.
