Kerry Group says it is willing to allow time for discussions on locating another industry on the site of a creamery which closed recently in mid-Kerry.
Castlemaine Cremery – which once had over 2,000 suppliers – closed its doors for the last time on September 26th.
There followed calls from the ICMSA and others for the facility, on the banks of the River Maine, not to be sold by Kerry Group until other options could be considered.
Responding to a motion raised by Fianna Fáil councillor, Michael O’Shea, Kerry Group said it will allow a period of time to facilitate consideration of locating another business or industry on the site.
The company added that if such an option was not forthcoming, it would have no option but to offer the site for sale.
