« BackKerry golf clubs warned of possible thefts

GUIGolf clubs in Kerry are been warned to be extra vigilant in relation to potential thefts.

The Golfing Union of Ireland (GUI) has sent correspondence to member clubs warning them of roving gangs who are targeting golf clubs specifically.

An Garda Siochana have been in touch with the organisation in relation to a series of thefts from golf clubs in the Connacht & Munster areas recently.

The first incident took place in Mayo and there have been further subsequent thefts in Galway, Clare and Cork with trolley dispensing machines being targeted for cash primarily.

The Gardaí believe that the suspects are moving south with possible future targets in the Cork/Kerry Region and The South East Region.

While the GUI are not aware of any Kerry golf course having been targeted as of yet, the Gardaí believe that it is likely further crimes will be committed.

The GUI is urging members to take measures to counteract possible damage to equipment and loss of revenue.

Clubs should be reminded to remove cash on a regular basis from the dispensers, to check their CCTV systems are functioning properly and report any suspicious activity immediately to the nearest Garda station.

Golf clubs are also reminded to be careful about purchasing equipment from unknown or suspect sources and to report anything suspicious to Gardaí.
