Kerry General Hospital is being renamed.
The facility is now to be known as University Hospital Kerry.
Around 18 months ago hospitals across the country were organised into seven hospital groups. The establishment of these groups was part of the programme for Government covering reform of the health services.
Each group will have their own governance and management and in time it is planned these will develop into independent competing Hospital Trusts, subject to a review.
Kerry General is included in the South and South West Hospital Group along with eight other facilities.
This group is linked with University College Cork as an academic partner, which aims to stimulate a culture of learning across the hospitals.
