Kerry farmers are being warned about a new telephone scam, which is believed to be specifically targetting those working in the agriculture sector.
Kerry County Councillor Dan McCarthy received an early morning call to his landline, from a man claiming to warn him about a computer hack.
The caller asked if Cllr McCarthy was working in the agriculture field, and then tried to access details of his computer.
The Kenmare-based Independent councillor did not fall for the scam, but is concerned that other farmers might be taken in, especially as many of them will currently be receiving farm payments:
Meanwhile Kerry-based MEP Seán Kelly is also warning people to be wary of potential fraudsters trying to scam money online or over the phone by obtaining banking details, passwords and other personal information.
