A north Kerry farm has become the first in Ireland to install an on-farm laboratory system.
The O’Hanlon’s Golden Hill Farm in Ballyduff has incorporated the DeLaval Herd Navigator into their 140 dairy cow enterprise over 44 hectares.
The family have had a robotic milking parlour on the farm for the past three years.
The Herd Navigator system works in conjunction with the parlour 24 hours a day by testing milk samples and providing information on the reproduction and health status of each cow.
Johnny O’Hanlon is the seventh generation of dairy farmer on Golden Hill, which has been in existence since the late 1800s.
