Deputy Michael Healy-Rae is confident the Rural Independent Group’s demands regarding the post office network will be met because they are now in the programme for Government.
Yesterday a private members’ motion by the group of TDs was accepted by the Government.
It includes an action plan for the post office network in the next 3 months, a new community banking service and a once off capital investment fund.
There are 1,150 post offices nationwide, with many of them are under threat.
Deputy Healy-Rae is against the suggestion of introducing travelling post offices and that post offices should not be located within 15 kilometres of each other.
