« BackKerry deputation to meet Minister about Shannon LNG

A deputation is to meet with the new Communications Minister to discuss a major project for North Kerry.

The proposed Shannon LNG terminal was the only specific reference to Kerry in the Programme for Government.

The Shannon LNG liquefied natural gas terminal project, which has cost 60 million euro to date, is earmarked for the Tarbert-Ballylongford landbank but has been beset by delays.

The project is currently before the Supreme Court, which is due to rule on an issue involving tariffs to be charged by the energy regulator.

Not only was it the only specific mention of Kerry in the Programme for Government, but the project also was cited by the European Commission as a future strategic hub for Europe’s gas supply.

Kerry Deputy Brendan Griffin has organised for a deputation to meet with the new Minister for Communication, Energy and Natural Resources Denis Naughton to discuss the matter.

This deputation, which will meet the Minister in Leinster House on June 22nd, will include Kerry TDs and representatives from Tarbert Development Association and Ballylongford Enterprise Association.
